Viva Magenta - the Color of the Year 2023: PANTONE 18-1750

Viva Magenta

An expressive, rebellious hybrid of red and pink—with blue/purple undertones, Viva Magenta (Pantone 18-1750) has recently been announced as the 2023 color of the year. While we have been awash in pink due to the ‘Barbiecore’—and the pop colors of the MOD ‘60s –both trends that have infiltrated the fashion and jewelry worlds, Viva Magenta is deeper and stronger—the colors of rich pink tourmaline, rubellite, spinel, sapphire and garnet with a nod to bright raspberry hues.

"PANTONE 18-1750 Viva Magenta writes a new narrative. Brave and fearless, a pulsating color whose exuberance promotes optimism and joy. Powerful and empowering, it is an animated red that encourages experimentation and self-expression without restraint; an electrifying, boundaryless shade that is manifest “out there” and is a stand-out statement. Audacious, witty, and inclusive of all, PANTONE 18-1750 Viva Magenta welcomes anyone and everyone with the same rebellious spirit." Posted on the LinkedIn page by Pantone.

In a video introducing the new color, Laurie Pressman, vice president of the Pantone Color Institute, said the new color “vibrates with vim and vigor."

A statement from the company said, “Viva Magenta is brave and fearless, and a pulsating color whose exuberance promotes a joyous and optimistic celebration, writing a new narrative.”

"Viva Magenta is brave and fearless, and a pulsating color whose exuberance promotes a joyous and optimistic celebration, writing a new narrative," it says.
