Well, some might move towards engineering, some towards medical, some set their goals towards dedicating themselves to their motherland, and so forth.

Amidst, few students have always found art as their medium of expressing themselves to the world. While art encompasses a wide domain, one of its niche areas is fashion designing, which is something that students with a passion for fashion, creativity, style, and trends should consider.

Career Opportunities in Fashion Designing

Fashion Design offers many career opportunities for those wishing to advance in this industry. Here are some of the many that can be considered while making a shift towards the fashion industry.

Fashion Designer

Studying fashion design, the first career path that comes to mind is becoming a well-renowned fashion designer. As a fashion designer, a person can fashion tangible clothing, accessories, footwear designs, home furnishing designs etc. from conceptualised designs.

The role involves researching fashion trends, sketching designs, and selecting fabrics and other accessories that go on or with the intended product. Along with that knowledge of fabric, sewing, pattern making, and overseeing the production process are the skills required to stay competitive in this market.

Fashion illustrator

Fashion design at this time has evolved a lot with the help of technology especially in a way of illustrating the designs before actually making them into the final product. Fashion illustrators specialize in creating virtual representations of clothing and accessory design. It involves working closely with the designer and, if applicable, clients to bring their concepts to life through drawing or 2D or 3D illustrations.

Fashion Stylist

Fashion stylists work with individuals, brands, or publications to create visually appealing outfits for photo shoots, runway shows, or everyday wear. Photographers, videographers, ad agencies, and artists often hire stylists for their specific projects. They have a keen eye for trends and understand how to coordinate clothing and accessories to achieve the desired look. Over time, they tend to become the go-to person in the studio, possessing skills in makeup, dressing, etc

Fashion Merchandiser

It is often said that the future of a retail company depends on its team of merchandisers.

Companies hire merchandisers to act as a bridge between all the departments be it manufacturing, marketing,  sales, etc., and deliver the right product to the market in the appropriate time.

They also analyse customer trends, forecast demand, and develop strategies to maximize sales and profitability for fashion retailers or brands. An active knowledge of the supply chain, product, quality, and manufacturing process is a key to becoming a successful merchandiser.

Fashion Buyer

Fashion buyers are most similar to fashion merchandisers. The key difference is that while merchandising is more involved in the supply chain of the product, fashion buyers are more inclined towards the needs of the market. The fashion buyers are responsible for the selection of products and product purchases from sources to be incorporated into the seasonal plans.

Having a strong knowledge of products, and market trends, negotiating with suppliers, making purchasing decisions based on consumer preference and sales data, product selection for the brands they work with, etc. are the keys to becoming a successful buyer.

The role of textile designers is to create patterns and prints for the fabric that can be used in clothing, accessories and home furnishings. They can work for textile mills, fashion brands or design studios, developing unique prints and textures that reflect current market trends or client preferences.
