At Garment Technology Expo 2018 in New Delhi, India

Last Saturday, I visited the Garment Machinery Exhibition in Delhi. The exhibition was Garment Technology Expo 2018. I would like to share some of the good moments at this event.

I attended the global summit on Apparel 4.0, Shaping the future with smart factories. I listen to some of the global experts on this topic. Here are few names –

In the global summit, global speakers and panelist discussed following topics

Dr. Mike Fralix showed one video of a digital factory (an ongoing development project with Sewbots ) where a robotic machine can recognize the shape of the garment components can rotate the fabric and place it under the needle for stitching. In the digital assembly line, no human intervention is required. The product components move on the table from one workstation to another automatically, components are getting stitched and moved to another machine on the line.

Mr. Samath Fernando who spoke on users’ perspective, shared how they utilize their data those are captured by different software solutions at different stages of the apparel supply chain. How they value the data by using BI tool, AI tool and IoT (Internet of Things).

He pointed, garment manufacturers have a lot of data but they are not doing an in-depth analysis of those resources, which are key for process improvement. By using data analytics, companies can predict possible issues their process – where it is a quality issue, production capacity, material consumption and material wastage. Factories can pick right operators for a new order by utilizing operator skill history data.

I agree with Mr. Samath. First, let’s utilize what we have. Later think of establishing a smart factory. 


We can I have seen many Indian garment factories, who don’t know how to use the data they are capturing using sophisticated software. No analytics. Garment manufacturers don’t have programmer and data analyst in their IT team for manufacturing operations.

It was a good experience altogether. 
I am glad to share that in this exhibition, I get chance to meet a couple of followers of my blog (Online Clothing Study). They shared how they find my blog site helpful. This was the most pleasured moments for me on that day.
I had a chance to meet old connections and had a good conversation with them. Also, build a new lot of new connections. 
I met my professors and ex-employer Dr. Rajesh Bheda, RBC. I met my professor Dr. Prabir Jana, Professor, NIFT, New Delhi. I met my friends and ex-colleagues – Manoj Singh, Impact Limited and Santosh Subudhi, Wazir Advisors.
In this exhibition, I got recognition as a popular global blogger in the apparel industry.

I was part of a book launch program. The book titled Industrial Engineering in Apparel Manufacturing, Practitioner’s Handbook authored by Prabir Jana and Manoj Tiwari. 

This is a much-needed book for the learners and apparel manufacturers. The book is published by apparel resources.

I have not yet written the most important part of the garment technology expo. I visited most of the halls. Sewing machines, automatic sewing workstations, embroidery machines, digital printing machines, cutting technology solutions, CAD systems, Sewing machine parts, garment finishing technology were main attractions of this show.
